WHAT HAPPENED?!

Last night's LOST was so unbelievable that I don't even have a jewelry tie-in to go with it.  Spoilers abound in this post.  If you haven't seen it yet, go watch and come back after to discuss.

I work at home.  For the most part, I love it.  I don't miss the office politics, fighting traffic, deciding what to wear and all that stuff.  The one thing I do miss, however, is gathering around and discussing groundbreaking television moments.  Last night's LOST episode was one of those moments.  So, I'm doing a public service for those of us who have nobody to discuss LOST with and opening up this blog for discussion.

Most importantly to me, what was going on with the two different scenarios - life as if the plane never crashed and life on the island after the explosion?  What's your take on this?  I read elsewhere that the plane not crashing stuff was a parallel universe.  I'm not so sure about that.  I mean, where was this parallel universe before the explosion?  Did the explosion create it or was it always there?  If it was always there, why haven't we seen it before and what's the meaning of showing it now?  I'm thinking that it's more of an alternate story, like this is what would have happened if the plane didn't crash.  Notice how the characters still interacted with each other, both on and off the plane?  Seriously, how many times are those kinds of connections made in real life?  You sit next to someone.  Maybe you talk, maybe you don't, but once you get off the plane, the other person is pretty much forgotten.

Next subject for discussion:  Locke (or faux Locke).  He's the smoke monster?!  Is he also the man in black?  In Locke's body, he has a sense of humor - "Sorry you had to see me like that."  But he also seems a bit malevolent or at least not terribly nice.  So what's the story here?  Opinions please, because I don't know what to think.

So nice that Juliet got a proper death scene and burial.  So sad for Sawyer.  So weird that her last words, well to Myles anyway, were "it worked."  How exactly did it work?  Is the whole strangers on a plane scenario the reality now and the island thing is life after death?  But then how could Juliet die if they were all already dead?

Speaking of dead.  Love that Hurley sees dead people and isn't the fazed by it in the least.  Jacob:  "I died about an hour ago."  Hurley:  "Sorry Dude.  That sucks."  Hugo/Hurley is my favorite LOST character with Charlie being a close second.  It was great seeing Charlie on the plane and I hope we get to see more of him.

Who else knew that Sayid wouldn't stay dead?  Who else thinks that he's now Jacob?  Who else really really really wants to know what was on that piece of paper that was inside the ankh from the guitar case?  (Loved Hurley's response when asked if he'd looked inside the case.  "Um. Maybe?"

There's a ton of other stuff I haven't even touched on, like why wasn't Claire on the plane (or was she?), where did Desmond disappear to, where is the body of Jack's dad?  Why wasn't the water in the temple spring clear and did it look kind of bloody to you?  What exactly is this temple and who are these other others?  Why was the island under water in the non-crash story?

I was hoping for some answers but got more questions instead.  Not that I'm complaining.  I loved it.  At some point I stopped trying to figure it out and just went along for the ride.  It was a fun and interesting ride.  But Sayid summed it all up for me with the last line of the night.  What happened?

I also work from home and I am so jazzed to be able to discuss my favorite show with someone other than my hubby! I am going to follow along from your original post and give my comments/questions on each point….here goes!

First off, I am one of those people that from Saturday night on I was searching the internet for anything I could find related to the final season premier. I was feeling like a junkie who needed a fix….a LOST fix! I even stopped myself from watching that hand-held video made at the Saturday premier in Hawaii. Oh, I won't lie. I started to watch it and then changed my mind. I wanted the full experience. And WOW, I am glad I waited. It was SO worth it.

The alternate reality (AR) threw me off as well. It was like finding old friends when Boone and Charlie showed up on the plane. I knew that John Locke had to be lying about participating in the walkabout. Weird to see Jack and Rose has switched position (she reassuring him during the disturbance on the plane).

I read a theory (spoilerish) that, if true, what we are seeing on the plane IS THE FINAL SCENES of the show. That after everything that happens in the next few months ends with arriving safely at LAX we saw in the season premier. And Juliet saying "let's get coffee" is what happens after they get off the plane because they truly do change the past and Sawyer and she (if they changed the past in in the early 70s then Juliet would have never went to the island and would be alive…yay!!) meet and have coffee. Wild, right?!

I saw the producers confirm that Locke is the smoke monster, but I am not sure about the MIB. The whole Locke thing has me confused so I am just going to be patient and see how it plays out (or go search for theories…..hey! I have to wait 6 more days for another episode. Gotta get my fix somehow!) I want to know about the circle of ash. Why do they do that? Why can't the SM cross that. And what's up with ANOTHER group of others? And who ARE the good guys and who are the bad guys??

I teared up when she went down the hole last season and did again when she died in Sawyer's arms. There are a lot of people that have never like Juliet and are glad that she is dead. I think those people don't like her because she throws a wrench in the whole triangle between Jake/Kate/Sawyer. However, I loved her. She was so good at showing her feelings on her face. When she looked at Sawyer and smiled right before Jack dropped the bomb her whole face showed how much she loved him. Which makes me wonder……she was scarred from her parents divorce and it changed her perception of love and what was possible. She then falls for Sawyer and he returns that love so her perception of love and of herself has changed. And she dies giving herself for that love. Reminds me of Charlie. He came full circle from drug addict to someone that loved enough to give his life for another. And he died doing it...hmmmmm.

Yeah, why did Hugo not do his usual freak out when he sees dead people? Is it that he is just immune to anything strange at this point? He certainly wasn't fazed. That seemed strange to me. Remember him freaking when Charlie came to see him while he was in the institute and he KNEW Charlie? Speaking of Charlie, it chilled me when he said "I was suppose to die." Sounds like Desmond.

I too have more questions than answers but this tired mommy needs to call it a night and go to bed. I'll probably reread this in the morning and wonder what the heck I was talking about but these are my rambings! This is going to be so much fun and can't wait to hear other opinions/theories. I love them all!
